Sheboygan River Progressive Farmers (SRPF) requests current and future members take this brief survey to understand what conservation practices are being done on the land and to track our group’s progress. Identifying member information will remain confidential and only aggregated results will be shared publicly. This information helps us report progress and the impact we are having to organizations that provide funding to our group for activities and also share our progress with our community.

Applications due June 1, 2026

Incentive payment up to a $500 award if you meet these criteria:

1 - SRPF member in good standing.
2 - Agree to Haney test a minimum of 2 comparison zones. Each comparison zone consists of 10 core samples.
3 - Complete the application and return it by June 1.
4 - Agree to share subsequent outcomes that can be shared with other members and sponsors.
5 - Must be a corn field.

Haney testing uses chemical and biological soil test data to mimic nature’s approach of nutrient availability in the soil. Metrics measured include soil respiration, water extractable organic carbon, microbially active carbon, organic carbon to organic nitrogen ratio, organic nitrogen to inorganic nitrogen ratio, organic nitrogen release, organic nitrogen reserve, soil health score, and cover crop evaluation.

All applicants will work with SRPF board member, Derek Sippel, to coordinate sampling and guidance to provide consistency and accuracy of the program. A representative from Adell Cooperative will be collecting samples to support the program. Samples must be collected by June 20, 2026.

The project will provide insight on how applicants can improve soil health within Sheboygan River basin. Data will be aggregated. All applicant information will remain confidential.

SRPF is offering $1000 scholarship(s) to graduating high school seniors and current college students who will be enrolled in a two-year technical school or four-year college during the upcoming academic year. Applicant must be pursuing an agriculture related or environmental science related degree. Scholarship money will be dispensed after proof of enrollment in second semester is provided and will be paid directly to the college. Scholarship recipients are required to assist at the booth during Sheboygan County Breakfast on the farm.

Final cost-share payments are dependent on available funds and will be distributed at the annual meeting.

The cost-share program is designed to be inclusive to help every member meet their soil and water conservation goals. These practices have been shown to provide a suite of benefits, including but not limited to, reducing soil erosion by wind and water, limiting nutrient losses via leaching, runoff, or other loss pathways, and improving soil health. 

To participate, please indicate which program(s) you would like to enroll in and the number of acres/samples you anticipate enrolling. Receipts or other appropriate documentation are required for all programs, as is completion of the SRPF Conservation Practice Survey. SRPF's cost share program is intended to be a learning opportunity for members, so we ask that members be willing to share lessons learned from trying a new practice with the group.

Maximum payout of $2000 plus $500 bonus if participating in 3 or more programs. Final cost-share payments are dependent on available funds and will be distributed at the end of the year. If you are not a SRPF member, fill out the membership form and pay membership dues.
